The worst human. And his band of thugs.

I go back and forth between anger and sadness. Find small moments of joy, but I wake up every single day thinking of the people/families he is brutalizing.

His band of thugs is the ICE agents, who are more like the Gestapo from 1930s Germany. We have never had people hiding behind masks going out and arresting others off the streets like they are. I saw today that several vehicles followed a man into the gas station when he got out of the truck to put gas in it, and the ICE agents grabbed him. They took him away, leaving his 19-year-old son and a much younger child in the truck. The young man did not have a license, so his sister had to come get them. That is not how this should be happening, and that is more like the Gestapo than how people should be acting.

It is stomach turning. There has to be something we can do to stop this. Trump let those thugs out to do just this.

It’s alarming to see such a blatant prioritization based solely on race under the guise of humanitarian concern. The historical context laid out here makes it clear that this is less about “human rights” and more about ideological alignment. Ignoring centuries of land inequality and systemic displacement in South Africa while extending a hand to a specific group reeks of selective empathy. Meanwhile, actual refugees from conflict zones around the world remain shut out. It’s hard to ignore the hypocrisy when those fleeing legitimate persecution are turned away, yet the red carpet is rolled out for those who conveniently match their preferred demographic.

Everything about this administration is so fucking blatant.

Yes. This administration doesn’t even bother justifying its actions anymore. Every move is blatant, almost daring people to react—but they seem convinced the country is numb to the constant stream of outrage. They’re overloading the public on purpose, scandal after scandal, until we’re too exhausted or too distracted by the last outrage to resist. As if there’s no limit to what they can get away with as long as they keep pushing.

Agree, but we aren’t numb. Trump & his horrid cohorts in crime will pay a bigger than they think.

It so disgusting. I’m so ashamed of Trump and his white nationalist, minions. They aren’t even trying to hide their overblown racism anymore. We have huge problems to fix. Time to really get going.

Glad you’re reporting on this, Katie. Outrageous upside down policy. I guess MAWA is the new slogan?

It's been the slogan all along. For the Trumpers the "Great" in MAGA means "White."

I don't really know what to say other than we have the dumbest president ever that does whatever he wants, to whomever he wants. Most of the time he doesn't make any sense and seems to be just talking to hear himself talk. When these people come here from Africa, do they have jobs already lined up, housing, etc. Are they going to be US Citizens under Donnie's command? What about all the people he has deported that had visas. Why didn't they count. A welcoming when they arrive and nothing for the dead soldiers when they came home to rest. Pretty screwed up, I would say. What else would we expect from the orange thing that calls himself president? That's not what I call him. Happy Mother's Day to all the Mother's out there. Forget about this mess that we are in for one day and enjoy yourselves. You deserve it. God Bless.

Racism is the mother's milk of MAGA - period. Millions of MAGAts would be fine with - or are actively working toward - the USA being an apartheid state, seeing as how it worked out so well for South Afrika and our own CSA. These are CRAZY times because these people are CRAZY - racist and religious head cases - who have worked long and hard to make the money and develop the political clout to make a solid run at manifesting their madness - and worse, like so many lunatics, they can't be reasoned with - the only way to prevail over them is to defeat them, to drive them back under the rocks they crawled out from under, one way or another. You have another idea? Do tell...

Kilmar Abrego Garcia and all the other people held in the El Salvador prison should have priority. Not these privileged friends of Musk. They would not let just "anybody" (poor people) in. It is all upside down. Thanks Katie.

I do so very much enjoy the 'law and disorder' articles. They are in-depth presentations of what's going down and why we should be paying attention. Your premise of Critical thinking implies reasonable knowledge of the facts as well as having a moral background to rely upon. I feel you very much support that concept by filling in the gaps and concerns. I know it takes time but is so refreshing!

This is obviously signaling to his racist MAGA base and perhaps doing a personal favor to co-president Musk, but how does this play more broadly with the American public? Is the outrage we feel shared more broadly?
