This was a well spent 37:36 minutes! WELL SPENT TIME!!!! The data that Alex presented was eye-opening. BUT what was most important were all the critical points we just learned here from how to best reach Latinos to how people in the Democratic Party MUST make people feel welcome when they come by. And you know...people don't leave something that is good for them unless there is something wrong and take a chance on someone worse. And...if 50 Trillion dollars has been siphoned from the lower 90% to the TOP 1%....then the D's have had a hand in the problem ...either directly or indirectly (and that can mean by doing NOTHING). Please have Alex back!

Thanks for the kind words. Agreeing on what's actually happening is a problem. We went viral on TikTok for mocking them and we get death threats now. Truth is a light they dont want to shine but we ate unrelenting. I've had people actually try to kill me so im not at all phased by some submissive conservative wimps running their thumbs at me on the internet

Great Conversation Katie, and Alex,

Katie, your Spanish is great. Si se entiende. Unfortunately,

I've heard the same thing from my Brown brothers and sisters. I'm not sure why they think Trump would be better than Kamala. Trump is good at manipulating people, but that's no excuse for the people who voted for Trump and the people who stayed home. When Trump was first nominated, AOC went on many Social media websites and stated she wanted to have a conversation with people, not pointing fingers, only figuring out why a Democrat was not elected. It would be great if you could have her on Substack for an interview about her outcome of these discussions.

Katie WOW WOW WOW. Alex was an OG that you have brought to your followers. But first, you have put me to shame with your Spanish and your ability to read and write. So Proud of you before but you truly belong on a pedestal. I have learned so much from you and Joy Reid.

going up as a second generation Mexican I was proud of my heritage until i saw it being disparaged by others. I grew up divided between what I learned in my early formative years and then found it to be looked down upon as i became more "educated". What Alex said is so true and I am guilty of being one of those. I never have been exposed to many Cubans here in the SW. I just know they had a reputation of being snobs and then my summers in Chicago exposed me to PRs as they were called. They were treated like subhumans and the small exposure I had of PRs was not something that made me proud. So it is essential that we as a diverse ethnic culture/s recognize they are people. Alex provided such a voice that explains so much. What an articulate and knowledgeable person to have as a guest. The whole Democratic Party needs to have voices like his.

This video was the most enlightening one I have heard, and now the whole voters who vote against themselves was somewhat explained. The whole "manosphere" was explained wonderfully on Dr. P. Krugman's substack. I would encourage everyone to read it.

The opening remarks made by Alex had me yelling to the computer "but WHY???" and you did a perfect job of having him explain. It all makes sense, and now I am better equipped to understand some voters. Alex and his qualitative/quantitative understanding of was perfect. He would make a good statistician. I wish he could speak with Dr. Krugman that would be amazing. But girl you hit it out of the park today- but I shouldn't be surprised. The little exposure you were given on msnbc (they never deserved you) made me a life long believer. These are not hollow compliments; it is wonderful to find a truly smart, educated (not the same thing) multi-cultural journalist who represents women Dems is phenomenal. Thanks you are truly a blessing to our cause.

Do you think it could be connected to the rallies he does? He goes out to talk to the people at these rallies and they seem to love that. Bernie and Alexandria have tried this and it's also been very effective.

I also agree that asking for money CONSTANTLY really is getting on people's nerves. Everyone is worried about their own financial situation. Personally, I have donated but, it doesn't change the fact that you can't donate constantly,

I'm in my 80's and 6K below poverty. I would love to be able to support all the people, but can't. I have to be very careful how I spend my money, so that I can pay my bills and keep a roof over my head. I walk and take a bag with me and pick up cans and bottles and cash them in for extra money. I know not everyone can do that and that all states do not have refunds on them. In my state it it 10 cents per can/bottle and it can add up. Also helps to clean things up. Been doing that for many years. I, also thrift shop and don't buy anything that I do not need. When you reach my age there's very little extra things that you need. Want, yes, Need no.

Alex...Eye Opening commentary on background (Jail/Death or Boxing, Gun Rights to Dem 'Purity' Resistance, Male Attraction to MAGA Strength/Community/Be Who You Are)...Love the insight into getting into What's App Groups to uncover attitudes and change messaging...Good to know some Hardcore Repubs are moving away...my Question...In all the Communication Channels (Social Media, TV, Podcast, Newspaper, Community Info) to the Latino Community/Especially MAGA...are there Orgs and Influencers letting them know Every Day the horrors being inflicted on the Latin Community (especially Legal Citizens that have citizenship or following all legal process protocols)...They should be seeing their community being terrorized everyday and not shielded by Right Wing Media.  This is only going to get worse from raids/camps as well as loss of healthcare, services, and economics...and it must be imperative to show the Latino Community the horrors and betrayal of the MAGA administration.

Great discussion, but hard to listen to. People would prefer a strong man violent rapist over a regular guy? We are screwed.

Janet, I'm with you. It's a hard sell because Kamala is intelligent. It's apparent when she speaks. We have a pedophile for President. It's beyond me how someone could vote for him. My mind always goes to the cult mentality. I'm Latina, and I cannot understand why Latino Men voted for Trump. Do you think it's a Macho thing?

Catherine ( Cate) Raphael's avatar

I agree with you both. But lets face it , we are women. The latino and Black men do not like strong women being in charge. YES it's a macho thing! Like Alex said, It's the way they were brought up. My dear friend, who was Jamaican born and bred and now a citizen told me, that not one Jamaican man she knew, would vote for Kamala. They want to see strong men leading the way, and I have to say, so far what we have been seeing is mostly strong women leading the way. Until Cory Booker and Hakeem Jeffries both stood up for hours on end, it's been the women speaking out. Those two men need to keep it up, or some man needs to stand up continually, like Gavin Newsom is standing up! Those are the type of Democrats these republican voters are looking for.

I understand the sentiment but there are shades off Grey here. I know im a sample of one but I fully support women and the need to even say that is bizarre to me. Like why wouldn't I support half the people on earth? crazy.

In Arizona Ruben Gallego outperformed kamala Harris in all 15 counties. BUT protecting a woman's right to choose outperformed Ruben in 13/15 counties!! There's inconsistencies in behavior that prevent me from saying we can't get men in general to support women in leadership. I think we can and I want to try

Catherine ( Cate) Raphael's avatar

I can't answer that, (being a woman,) except, from what I have seen that seems to be the sentiment among men, period. Also being a senior woman, have seen men seemingly lost in the sea of woman who are finally taking a stand. Women have changed and grown in power en masse, but men seem to be struggling as to what their place is now, and it's understandable. Men since the beginning of time, have been raised to be tuff, take care of their family and be the bread winner. It's only in recent history. ( since the 70's ), that women have had the freedoms that they now know. It wasn't until the late 70's that a woman could have a credit card in their name or take out a loan on their own and even then it was few and far between. So, I honestly think this is part of the issue with men not wanting a woman president. Just my personal opinion.. Alex, your interview today, was a MOST important discussion!! Powerful ! I hope that you will share this information with Democratic politicians. They need to understand this truth to move forward. Thank you for all that you do!

I agree. My dad was an extremely controlling man. My Mom was subservient in many ways. I hated watching her serve him. My 10-year-old independent self would stand up to him.

I do love Cory Booker and Hakeem Jeffries. It makes my heart happy to listen to them speak to the people and inform people how this Budget is harmful to Americans. I'm in California, and I am proud that Governor Newsom is standing up to the bully. I'm a Senior Citizen and would love to see a woman President in my lifetime. I believe, though, at this time we need to come together as We the People and stand by a candidate to overcome this dictatorial type of government we're seeing. May we Americans thrive and move past this Bombastic President.

Yes! I too am a senior, and would love to see a strong woman in the presidency. But right now, we need ANY strong leader who is willing to take on this insane regime and bring together, Dems, trump hating Republicans and Independents . It's going to take ALL of us to take them down. We need to work together. We need a strong message that the voters can stand behind.

Machismo. Latinos want a MAN that makes them safe? So they think Tate is stronger or braver than Hogg? Smh! In contrast, Hogg has survived a mass shooting and has been fighting against the biggest lobby in America. Tate is a vicious, vile, misogynistic rapist. Smh again! Wtf?

Katie, I love your broad base of guests and your/their insights! Alex, thank you! Hands down THE MOST informative and Eye opening 30+ minutes I've ever heard peeling the onion of Latino/American political/life experiences. To me, papers are just a formality. Anyone who aspires to live in America to honor and live her ideals IS American. I consider Latino families, in many ways, to be the Gold Standard for a model family. This coming from a 63 y.o., WGM, Christian caregiver who worked the past few years living in the East Village, Barrio Logan and surrounding Latino-dense areas of San Diego. I get what you said about the Dem disrespect and disconnect of our beautiful, decent and respectful neighbors. Honestly, many just don't get the point. Alex, you are a beautiful man, inside and out. It is obvious to me that your experiences have set you apart for very specific and profound purposes. God's purposes. Keep that light in your eyes. Am looking forward to hearing more!

This was such an informative and illuminating interview! I was ashamed to hear about progressive Dems being so bullying…I guess no group has a monopoly on their potential for cruelty. I lived in Brevard County FL during my high school years so this interview resonated personally. I have Florida friends who have been aghast at the political landscape changes over the last few decades. The insights regarding the power of the historical cultural influences on the Latino communities was fascinating and not something I’d thought about before. Keep up the good work Alex, it’s critical that it be done and widely shared!
